See what the critics are saying:
"Wonderfully written by Eleanor Burgess with superb direction by Margo Whitcomb... The five-person cast completely captures the essence of their roles with performances that bring to light the passion people feel for their work and how their personal relationships can be affected." A smart and funny look at work, love, teachers and get-rich-quick tech start-ups.
Winner of the Susan Glaspell Award and the Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition, Start Down is a funny and startling glimpse into the world of technology, education and its potential (or consequences) for educators and students alike. Influenced by his girlfriend's teaching career and driven to produce a cutting-edge product, a San Francisco software developer Will, creates a program which will change the face of teaching forever. It's a brilliantly profitable idea until it threatens some deeply held core values and ultimately his own relationship.
Eleanor’s play MOCHA was produced by the Last Act Theatre Company last January as part of Austin’s Fronterafest, and her short play PARK SLOPE MINSTREL SHOW was featured in the Samuel French Off Off Broadway Festival this past summer. She has also had work produced by Everyday Inferno Theatre Company, the Emerging America Festival and the One Minute Play Festival and developed at the Vineyard Theatre, New Georges, Broad Horizons, Reverie Productions, and the Crashbox Theater Company. She has been a playwriting fellow at the Huntington Theatre Company in Boston and a member of the writers’ group at the Arcola Theatre in London. Originally from Brookline Massachusetts, she studied history at Yale College and subsequently taught history, filmmaking and creative writing in London and New Haven. She is an MFA graduate in Dramatic Writing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
