Pippin - Performed by Centenary YPW
in Summer 2012
|
Musicals galore fill the schedule of the annual Summer Festival of Shows August 10-19th at the Centenary Young Performers
Workshop with a cast of talented young thespians from Morris, Warren, Hunterdon and Sussex counties [see below]. The
Centenary YPW has been hailed as a "state treasure" by Peter Filichia of the Star Ledger. The festival will
feature the musicals Over The Moon by fiction writer Jodi Picoult, Jake Van Leer, and Ellen Wilber; Bob Fosse's
Pippin, The Roundabout Inn; and The One Acts Playhouse. Performances will be held in Little Theatre on the campus of

veteran, Michael Blevins.
Over The Moon
By: Jodi Picoult and Jake Van Leer
Part Shakespearean comedy and part Fractured Fairy Tales, Over The Moon is all fun. Narrated by a cross-dressing
Hairy Godmother (no, that’s not a typo), the story begins when Luna (the moon) descends to a small town on earth
disguised as a boy, and sets out to help humans find love. Over the Moon will perform
Friday-Aug. 10 @ 8pm, Saturday-Aug. 11 @ 2pm, Sunday-Aug. 12 @ 4pm, Saturday-Aug. 18 @ 5pm and Sunday-Aug. 19 @ 1pm.
Pippin
Book by: Roger O. Hirson
Music and Lyrics by: Stephen Schwartz
Once upon a time, a young prince longed to discover the secret of true happiness and fulfillment. He sought it in the
glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power (after disposing of
his father King Charlemagne the Great). In the end, he found it in the simple pleasures of home and family. Pippin is
a hip, tongue-in-cheek, anachronistic fairy tale that captivated Broadway audiences and continues to appeal to the
young at heart everywhere. Pippin runs Sat., Aug. 11 @ 8pm, Sun., Aug.12 @ 1pm, Fri., Aug.
17 @ 8pm, Sat., Aug.18 @ 2pm and Sun., Aug. 19 @ 7pm.

They're Playing Our Song
Book by: Neil Simon
Music by: Marvin Hamlisch
Lyrics by: Carole Bayer
Sager
America's premier funny man and the Tony Award-winning composer of A Chorus Line collaborated on this hit musical, following
the on-again, off-again romance of one very despondent composer and one very ditzy lyricist, as they try to create their
own unique love song. … A whirling dervish of a musical comedy, with a delicious score. They’re
Playing Our Song will perform Sat., Aug.11 @ 5pm, Sun., Aug. 12 @ 7 pm, Sat., Aug. 18h @ 8pm and
Sun., Aug. 19 @ 4pm.
