                      "His playing is extremely infectious!"
                                             – John S. Wilson, The New York Times

Known as a "Show Stopper" from his early days of performance, virtuoso pianist Danny Mixon will bring his special brand of musical stylings to the Centenary Stage when the Danny Mixon Trio performs on Sunday, March 18 at 4 PM in the David and Carol Lackland Center in Hackettstown.

Danny Mixon has been performing professionally as a jazz pianist since his first appearance with singer Patti LaBelle and her band, The Bluebelles. He spent years performing with jazz singers Joe Lee Wilson and Betty Carter, and playing with jazz luminaries such as Art Blakey, Charles Mingus, Eubie Blake, Lou Rawls and Dannie Richmond, before accompanying Carlos Garnet at Brooklyn’s Baby Grand. Described by The New York Times as creating a "riveting use of old time boogie-woogie blues," Mixon has also worked with legendary jazz artists Lionel Hampton and Joe Williams, and Frank Foster, who he currently accompanies as a member of Frank Foster’s Loud Minority Big Band and the Non-Electric Company.

Mixon has performed at the White House, and in the first Newport Jazz Festival at Sea on the Queen Elizabeth II, as well as in the International Fall Jazz Festival in Milan, Italy. He has been honored by Harlem’s National Jazz Museum and is currently the Musical Director of the Lenox Lounge, a performer and instructor with the Jazzmobile. With the latest release of his new CD, "On My Way", critic John S. Wilson wrote, "His music is extremely infectious!"

Danny's greatest joy is performing, composing, and arranging for his own group "The Danny Mixon Trio," and has recently completed his new CD entitled "On My Way." He has also performed, toured and/or recorded with Yusef Lateef, Hank Crawford, Savion Glover, Pharoah Sanders, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Stanley Turrentine, Gene Ammons, Eubie Blake, Noel Pointer, Jimmy Witherspoon, Grant Green, Eddie Jefferson, Charles McPherson, Marlena Shaw, Irene Reid, Houston Person, Dakota Staton, Ben Vereen, Leon Tomas, Chaka Khan, Cassandra Wilson, Lou Rawls, Gloria Lynne, Lisle Atkinson, Oscar Brown, Jr., John Hendricks, Pucho and the Latin Soul Brothers, Earl May, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Kenny Dorham and many others.

Danny is currently the Musical Director of the Legendary Lenox Lounge and is an instructor and performance artist with the Jazzmobile as well as giving private instructions in his own studio.
