Born in Red Bank, New Jersey in 1904, William "Count" Basie
helped establish jazz as a serious art form, with swing as one of jazz's
predominant styles. The immortal sounds of Count Basie will come alive
on August 6 at 8 PM , as Dick Meldonian and his 17-piece Big Swing Jazz
Band present "An Evening with Count Basie".
Meldonian, a swing-based saxophonist and clarinetist, has worked with
such notables as Tony Bennet, Benny Goodman, Charlie Barnet, Stan Kenton
and others, and has brought together a group of vibrant and gifted musicians
dedicated to keeping the big band sound alive and well.
