Jerry Harris is one of America’s great male jazz vocalists, taking inspiration from his greatest influences including Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn and Joe Williams. Jerry has performed with several renowned musicians including the Modern Sound, Asparagus Sunshine, Equinox, Phil Woods, Al Cohn, Bob Dorough, Urbie Green, Dave Frishberg, John Coates Jr., Rick Chamerlain, Jimmy Knepper, Jesse Green, Shirley Scott, Tony Williams and many others. David Newman’s career hit it’s first high in 1954 when he was called on by Ray Charles to be part of the Ray Charles Band, which he was for twelve years. After his solo career took off he recorded many albums for Atlantic Records as well as Warner Brothers and Prestige. David has also appeared on many television shows including Saturday Night live, David Sanborn’s Night Music, David Letterman and various featured news segments. He appeared in Robert Altman’s film “Kansas City” and did a national tour with the Kansas City Orchestra, for Verve Records. Jazz In July The Centenary Performing Arts Guild will feature, “Jazz in July”, a four concert series beginning Saturday, July 17th at 8pm in the air conditioned Little Theatre. The Little Theatre, with limited seating, is a perfect venue for small jazz groups, providing the audience with a close up experience both in sound, visibility and intimacy. “Jazz in July” is sponsored by Merrill Lynch. The concerts will be recorded by WNTI, the Centenary College radio station, and General Manager, Paul Maassen intends to replay segments of the concerts on its jazz programs. Tickets
