Audiences can't wait until next July for more Jazz!! People love the Jazz in July Concert Series at Centenary College's Little Theatre so much, that we're introducing a new jazz series to heat up those cold winter nights this January.

The Smith Street Society Jazz Band kicks off Jazz in January, with a performance at Centenary College on Saturday, January 13th, 2007 at 8PM where audiences will have the opportunity to have a ball at this great show. Authentic New Orleans Dixieland, a variety of popular ragtime and roaring 20's music will have everyone up on their feet. What a great way to start the New Year!

The Smith Street Society Jazz Band is an ensemble group that includes banjo and soprano saxophone, tuba, bass, trombone, drums and piano and vocals. The ensemble's performing credits include playing with such jazz greats as Jimmy McPartland, Max Kaminsky, the great Dixieland trumpet player, Tony Parenti and Zutty Singleton, and the Village Stompers...so... these folks know Dixieland! The band has 5 record albums to their credit in addition to appearances in two major motion pictures: King of the Gypsies and Hero at Large, and in Super Bowl XXIX in Miami.

"Lusty old style jazz and vital rugged jazz performances driven by Herb Gardner's brash, expressive trombone and the urgent singing soprano saxophone of Bruce McNichols."
                                                            The New York Times

Next performances of the Jazz in January Concert Series:

The David "Fathead" Newman Quartet, a Jazz & R&B Tenor Sax legend featuring Jesse Green on Piano, on Saturday January 20th, 2007 at 8 PM

The Warren Chiasson Quartet, one of the Jazz World's Finest Vibraphonists in A Tribute to Cal Tjader, on Saturday January 27th, 2007 at 8 pm.
