The Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company is acclaimed for its artistic excellence and range as well as its extraordinary ability to communicate to audiences about dance and the creative process. With cohesive artistic and educational programming, the Company works on and off the stage to bring contemporary dance to its audiences. Carolyn Dorfman, founder and artistic director of the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company, has been hailed as a Distinguished Artist and has won six Choreography Fellowships from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts (NJSCA), in additional to other choreography honors. A master teacher, she is a guest artist/choreographer/teacher at major universities in the U.S. and has served on the guest faculty at the Limón Institute in New York. Since founding her Company, she has created more than 60 works for her 11 member ensemble, which appears at major theaters, dance festivals, universities and schools regionally, nationally and internationally and is lauded for its exceptional arts education and community programming. The Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company has been acclaimed for its artistic excellence and range, as well as for its elegance and power, technical ability, versatility, and “inner fire.” Critic Sheila Abrams stated that Dorfman’s work “frequently stands out for its cerebral underpinnings,” and went on to say that Dorfman’s artistry was “ a reason for Garden State dance aficionados to stand up and cheer.” (Observer Tribune). The Company is led by Artistic Director Carolyn Dorfman's creative drive to communicate human experiences, interactions, perceptions and truths. The Company has also been hailed for its "elegance and power" and "technical ability, versatility, and inner fire." CDDC presents new and repertory works by Ms. Carolyn Dorfman and regularly commissions original scores.
About the David and Carol Lackland Center
The Centenary Stage Company has found its new home with construction the Carol and David Lackland Center (located at 715 Grand Ave, Hackettstown), completed in August, 2010. With a 22,000-square-foot performance space, the facility is the most sophisticated performing arts venues in northwest New Jersey. The center includes a new state-of-the-art 500-seat theatre (Sitnik Theater), a black box theater (The Edith Bolte Kutz ’42 Theater), a dance studio, scene shop, a costume shop, green room and dressing rooms. In addition to housing the theatre, the 68K square foot Lackland Center is home to a variety of cultural activity, and including WNTI, the College's listener-supported public radio station, CCTV, Centenary's Comcast-licensed television studio, and gallery space for visual artists.
